A specialized Saudi medical team successfully separated Somali conjoined twins Rahma and Ramla following a complex 12-hour surgical procedure carried out on Thursday in Riyadh.

The surgery was performed at the King Abdullah Specialized Children’s Hospital located within King Abdulaziz Medical City and involved eight stages. A total of 36 consultants, specialists, and technical staff took part in the operation, representing multiple disciplines including anesthesia, pediatric surgery, urology, orthopedic surgery, and plastic surgery, with additional support from nursing and technical teams.

Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and head of the program’s surgical and multidisciplinary team Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah said the successful separation of Rahma and Ramla marks the 68th operation carried out under the Saudi Conjoined Twins Programme.

He noted that during the past 35 years the program has provided care for 156 conjoined twins from 28 countries, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s leading role in humanitarian and medical initiatives.

Al Rabeeah said the continued success of the program demonstrates the Kingdom’s commitment to humanitarian values and its efforts to provide advanced medical care to people from around the world.

He also expressed gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for their continued support of the humanitarian medical initiative.

According to Al Rabeeah, the successive medical milestones highlight Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian and medical leadership both regionally and internationally. He also praised the dedication of the medical and surgical teams whose expertise and commitment made the successful operation possible.

The twins’ family welcomed the successful outcome and expressed deep gratitude to the Saudi leadership for providing specialized medical care for their children.

The parents also thanked Saudi Arabia for its hospitality and humanitarian support during their stay, wishing the Kingdom continued stability and prosperity while praying for the health and well-being of Rahma and Ramla.
