ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a new oil discovery at its Chakar-1 exploratory well located in the Tando Allah Yar district of Sindh, marking another milestone in its pursuit of domestic energy resources.
As the operator of the Tando Allah Yar (TAY) Exploration License with a 95% working interest, OGDCL made the discovery in partnership with Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), which holds the remaining 5% carried interest.
The Chakar-1 well was spudded on June 2, 2025, and drilled to a depth of 1,926 meters targeting the Upper Shale of the Lower Goru Formation. According to OGDCL, after analysis of wireline and Reservoir Evaluation Services (RES) logs, a Drill Stem Test (DST) was conducted in the B-Sand, followed by testing through an Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP).
The well is currently producing 275 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) through a 32/64” choke with a wellhead flowing pressure of 400 psi. Additionally, preliminary testing of the Lower Ranikot formation has also indicated the presence of oil, and a second DST/ESP is in progress to assess its full hydrocarbon potential.
This discovery is the 13th in the TAY Exploration License, reinforcing confidence in the geological potential of the block. OGDCL stated that the find supports its continued commitment to bolstering Pakistan’s energy security through sustained exploration and development.
The company emphasized that positive results from Chakar-1 strengthen the case for further appraisal and exploration activities in the area to fully delineate the resource base.
