ISLAMABAD: Petrol price has climbed by Rs1.19 per litre to Rs394.83 for October 7, while diesel price has fallen by Rs1.91 to Rs395.85, keeping both major fuels near the Rs400-per-litre threshold.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products under the government’s daily petroleum pricing mechanism for October 7.

According to the Petroleum Division, the new ex-depot price of petrol has been set at Rs394.83 per litre after an increase of Rs1.19.

The price of high-speed diesel (HSD), on the other hand, has been reduced by Rs1.91 per litre to Rs395.85.

The opposing movements in petrol and diesel prices will have different effects on consumers and economic activities across the country.

The increase in petrol price is likely to be felt directly by motorcycle and car owners, as petrol is the main fuel for private vehicles and other light transport.

For consumers buying 20 litres of petrol, the increase will add Rs23.80 to the fuel bill, while those purchasing 100 litres will face an additional Rs119 expense.

Diesel consumers, meanwhile, will receive limited relief as the Rs1.91-per-litre reduction lowers the cost of operating diesel-powered vehicles and machinery.

A 100-litre diesel purchase will now cost Rs191 less compared with the previous price.

HSD is extensively consumed by buses, trucks, freight transport, agricultural machinery, generators and industrial equipment. Any sustained reduction in diesel prices can help ease operating costs in these sectors, although the impact on consumer prices depends on wider transportation and production costs.

The Petroleum Division said the latest changes are linked to international prices of petrol and diesel under the government’s pricing mechanism.

The revision takes into account movements in international market prices, Platts rates, petroleum premiums and other related costs.

The latest prices will remain applicable for October 7, 2026, under the government’s daily petroleum pricing mechanism.
