ISLAMABAD: The government has further lowered petroleum prices, cutting petrol by Rs2.27 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs3.56, with revised prices of Rs389.03 and Rs404.97 applicable for September 29.

According to the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has been reduced from Rs391.30 to Rs389.03 per litre, while HSD has been cut from Rs408.53 to Rs404.97 per litre.

The latest reduction has taken petrol below Rs390 per litre, marking a further decline in the price of the fuel most widely used by private motorists. HSD, meanwhile, has also registered a sizeable reduction but remains above the Rs400-per-litre level.

The revised prices are applicable for September 29 only under the government’s daily petroleum pricing mechanism. The Petroleum Division issued the revised prices following the determination made by OGRA.

The reduction in diesel prices could have wider implications for the transport and agriculture sectors, which rely heavily on HSD for freight movement, passenger transport, farming operations and heavy machinery.

Lower diesel prices reduce the direct fuel burden on transporters and other commercial users. However, the reduction does not automatically translate into lower freight or consumer prices, as transport charges are also influenced by labour, maintenance, financing and other operating expenses.

For motorists, the Rs2.27-per-litre reduction in petrol provides immediate relief at fuel stations, although the overall monthly benefit will vary according to vehicle fuel consumption and distance travelled.

The latest price revision is part of the government’s daily petroleum pricing mechanism, under which prices can be reviewed again following the expiry of the current one-day applicability period.
