Saudi Arabia has further cemented its global leadership in the fields of public financial auditing and accountability by securing the chairmanship of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).
The announcement was made during the 25th General Assembly of INTOSAI, held in Sharm El-Sheikh under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
The General Assembly declared Saudi Arabia, represented by the General Court of Audit (GCA), as the Chair of INTOSAI for a three-year term starting in 2031. As part of this role, the Kingdom will host delegations from over 195 countries — including the heads of supreme audit institutions (SAIs) — in Riyadh, assuming leadership of the world’s foremost organization in financial and performance auditing.
This appointment positions Saudi Arabia at the helm of global efforts to strengthen transparency, improve governance, and enhance the effectiveness of public sector institutions, reinforcing public trust in national economies worldwide.
On the occasion, GCA President Dr. Hussam Alangari congratulated Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, acknowledging their continuous support for the GCA. He said the achievement underscores the Kingdom’s international stature and global trust, enabling it to play a key role in advancing auditing and accountability globally.
Dr. Alangari noted that Saudi Arabia’s success is built on the GCA’s institutional independence, growing technical capacity, and innovative audit methodologies. “Saudi Arabia welcomes the world in 2031, and we look forward to hosting everyone in Riyadh to shape a global future that promotes transparency, governance, and governmental effectiveness,” he stated.
Saudi Arabia’s journey with INTOSAI began in 1977, marking decades of active engagement. The Kingdom has consistently held leadership positions in international and regional auditing organizations, currently serving as Chair of the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) for two consecutive terms since 2022, and set to chair the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) in 2027.
Through the GCA, the Kingdom has also led several INTOSAI committees and initiatives aimed at building capacity and improving the efficiency of SAIs in developing countries, reflecting its commitment to advancing global standards of accountability and governance.
Founded more than 70 years ago, INTOSAI is the largest and most prestigious international body uniting SAIs worldwide, comprising over 195 member countries. The organization works to promote transparency, enhance public sector auditing, and improve the quality of governance to benefit citizens across the globe.
