Islamabad: A high-level delegation from the World Bank, comprising executive directors, has arrived in Pakistan to hold discussions with Prime Minister, Finance Minister, and other senior officials, as well as business leaders, educators, and civil society representatives.
Focus on 10-Year Country Partnership Framework
According to sources, the delegation will also visit various provinces as part of its mission. The visit follows the approval of a 10-year Country Partnership Framework (CPF) last month, under which the World Bank pledged $40 billion in financial assistance to Pakistan.
The expanded framework will focus on six key development areas, with an emphasis on:
Reducing child stunting
Mitigating the impacts of climate change
Major Development Goals Under CPF
The World Bank’s specific objectives under the CPF include:
✅ Increasing Pakistan’s tax revenue to over 15% of GDP
✅ Expanding renewable energy capacity by 10 gigawatts
✅ Providing quality education to 12 million students
✅ Ensuring healthcare access for 50 million people
Additionally, the framework aims to:
Guarantee access to clean water and sanitation for 60 million people
Strengthen food security for 30 million individuals
Expand contraceptive access to 30 million women
Disaster Management & Climate Resilience
Sources indicate that the CPF will also include strategies to address floods, natural disasters, and other climate-related risks. The Country Partnership Framework is expected to benefit approximately 75 million people across Pakistan.
The delegation’s visit is seen as a significant step toward implementing these ambitious development goals, with key discussions expected to shape the future of Pakistan’s economic and social reforms.
