ISLAMABAD:
A three-member delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has arrived in Pakistan to conduct a Governance and Corruption Diagnostic Assessment under the country’s 2024 Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program.
Reportedly, a three member IMF’s delegation has arrived in the country to evaluate the severity of corruption vulnerabilities in six key sectors, including the rule of law and financial governance.
According to a statement issued from the Ministry of Finance on Sunday, a three-member International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission will visit Pakistan to conduct a Governance and Corruption Diagnostic Assessment under the country’s 2024 Extended Fund Facility programme.
The mission will evaluate corruption vulnerabilities in six key sectors, including fiscal governance, central bank operations, financial sector oversight, market regulation, rule of law, and anti-money laundering and counter-financing of terrorism (AML-CFT).
“The report will recommend actions to address corruption vulnerabilities and strengthen integrity and governance, with its findings shaping structural reforms,” the ministry stated.
Pakistan’s government has welcomed the IMF’s technical support, emphasizing that the assessment will aid in promoting transparency and improving institutional capacity.
The country is currently benefiting from a $7 billion IMF facility approved in September 2024 as it navigates an economic recovery. The IMF is set to review Pakistan’s progress by March, with both the government and central bank expressing confidence in meeting their targets.
