In a key step marking the final preparations for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage, the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has elevated the lower portion of the Holy Kaaba’s Kiswa by three meters.

This annual ritual is carried out to protect the sacred cloth during the upcoming Hajj season, corresponding to the year 1446 AH in the Islamic calendar.

The procedure, conducted by specialized teams, involved carefully dismantling the lower parts of the Kiswa, separating the corners, and raising the cloth to a height of three meters. A two-meter-wide white cotton cloth was then placed to cover the exposed section on all sides. The process was completed with the return of the traditional lamps to their designated places.

The raising of the Kiswa is a centuries-old tradition designed to prevent wear and tear or damage caused by the intense proximity of pilgrims during Tawaf (circumambulation). It also serves to preserve the sanctity of the Kaaba during the peak of Hajj activities.

Authorities emphasized that the operation was carried out in full consideration of the sanctity of the site, adhering to the highest standards of professionalism and safety. It forms part of broader preparations aimed at ensuring a safe, smooth, and spiritually fulfilling experience for the millions of pilgrims expected to arrive in Makkah.

The ritual stands as a symbol of the Kingdom’s meticulous organization and unwavering commitment to serving the guests of Allah with devotion and care.
