The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) has called for launching more science festivals across Pakistan after the resounding success of the Lahore Science Mela (LSM) 2025, which concluded on a high note over the weekend.
Dr. Rashid Mahmood, spokesperson for PAEC, praised the massive public participation in the event and emphasized that such initiatives should also be held in other major cities, particularly Islamabad.
“To keep the spirit of curiosity alive among the youth, we should organize interactive and educational science festivals all over Pakistan — especially in the capital,” Dr. Rashid remarked.
“These events ignite curiosity, promote love for scientific research, and satisfy young minds’ thirst for knowledge,” he added.
During the two-day exhibition, PAEC showcased its contributions to mineral exploration, power generation, agriculture, and healthcare in an engaging and accessible manner.
The PAEC pavilion featured radiopharmaceutical kits developed by the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH) for cancer diagnosis, a model of a nuclear power plant, indigenously produced vaccines, and various agricultural and mineral products.
One of the highlights was the presence of Champions of the International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) 2025, trained by the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) — PAEC’s premier engineering university.
PAEC has been a consistent participant in the Lahore Science Mela, organized annually by the Khwarizmi Science Society (KSS), and has played a leading role in promoting scientific culture and public engagement with science in Pakistan.
Held at the Crescent Model Higher Secondary School in Lahore, the 2025 edition of the mela attracted over 100,000 visitors. The festival offered a rich blend of science and entertainment, featuring hands-on experiments, interactive exhibits, a planetarium, laser demonstrations, indoor games, workshops, and expert talks in the auditorium.
The event provided young Pakistanis a unique opportunity to explore scientific innovation and connect with experts in a festive atmosphere, reinforcing the growing public interest in science and technology across the country.
