ISLAMABAD: Already facing heavy inflationary pressure, petrol consumers will bear another increase of Rs4.61 per litre as the price rises to Rs393.75 for September 22, while diesel users receive limited relief of Rs1.96 per litre at Rs422.08.

According to the Petroleum Division, OGRA has revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products under the federal government’s petroleum pricing mechanism, with the new rates applicable on September 22, 2026.

The petrol price has increased from Rs389.14 to Rs393.75 per litre, bringing the fuel within just Rs6.25 of the Rs400-per-litre threshold.

For motorists, the increase translates directly into higher fuel bills. A person purchasing 50 litres of petrol will have to pay Rs230.50 more than under the previous price, while a 100-litre purchase will cost Rs461 more.

The increase comes at a time when consumers are already dealing with high inflation and elevated household and transportation expenses.

In contrast, diesel consumers have received a reduction of Rs1.96 per litre, with HSD falling from Rs424.04 to Rs422.08 per litre.

The reduction means a consumer buying 50 litres of diesel will save Rs98, while a 100-litre purchase will result in a saving of Rs196 compared with the previous price.

Despite the reduction, diesel remains significantly above Rs400 per litre, limiting the extent of relief available to diesel users.

The latest revision has therefore produced a mixed impact on consumers, with petrol motorists facing an immediate increase in fuel expenditure while diesel users receive a comparatively smaller reduction.

The Petroleum Division attributed the revision to changes in global petroleum market factors, including Platts rates, premiums and incidentals.

The latest rates applicable on September 22 are Rs393.75 per litre for Motor Spirit and Rs422.08 per litre for High Speed Diesel.

The latest increase has moved petrol closer to the Rs400-per-litre level, while diesel continues to remain above that threshold despite the reduction.
