Saudi Arabia has taken a bold step toward revolutionizing industrial development in the Gulf region with the launch of its first-ever multi-storey factory. The innovative project was unveiled by the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones (MODON) in Dammam’s First Industrial City, marking a milestone in the Kingdom’s strategy to boost investment and industrial capacity.
This groundbreaking initiative is part of MODON’s efforts to foster a more attractive environment for industrial investments and to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s position as a regional leader in modern manufacturing. The vertical factory represents a sustainable approach to industrial growth, focusing on maximizing land use efficiency while providing flexible solutions to meet the diverse needs of investors and businesses.
The facility spans more than 7,500 square meters and rises eight floors high, featuring 78 fully serviced industrial units ranging in size from 156 to 251 square meters. Designed specifically for entrepreneurs and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the factory offers ready-made spaces that enable businesses to launch operations quickly and efficiently.
According to MODON, the project aims to support several key sectors, including electronics, 3D printing, food production, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. By fostering these industries, MODON seeks to accelerate economic diversification, create job opportunities, and empower the next generation of industrial innovators.
Officials highlighted that this vertical factory model is a forward-looking solution to meet the increasing demand for industrial facilities, especially in densely populated urban areas. It also reflects MODON’s commitment to sustainable development by reducing environmental impact through efficient land use and integrated services.
MODON currently oversees 39 industrial cities across the Kingdom, which collectively house over 9,000 facilities for industrial, logistics, and investment activities. These cities represent a total investment of more than 463 billion Saudi riyals and cover an area of 220 million square meters.
The new factory is expected to play a key role in strengthening Saudi Arabia’s position as a global industrial hub, attracting high-quality foreign investments and supporting the objectives of Vision 2030 to localize more industries and create a competitive, sustainable economy.
By introducing this first-of-its-kind vertical industrial complex, Saudi Arabia aims to inspire similar projects across the Gulf region, setting new standards for innovation, growth, and collaboration in the manufacturing sector.
