A 24-member Saudi medical team under the “Balsam” Association has arrived in Syria to carry out a voluntary medical mission focused on heart surgery and catheterization, as part of a humanitarian initiative by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief).
The project, launched in Damascus on April 15 and set to run through April 22, 2025, is part of KSrelief’s broader commitment to offering critical healthcare services to low-income individuals and families in countries facing medical infrastructure challenges.
In partnership with local Syrian doctors, the Balsam medical team will conduct 95 life-saving cardiac procedures at the University Hospital in Damascus, including 15 open-heart surgeries and 80 cardiac catheterizations. The initiative also includes extensive medical checkups to assess and treat patients in need of cardiac care.
Beyond surgeries, the project places a strong emphasis on capacity building within Syria’s healthcare system. As part of its goals, 15 local healthcare practitioners will receive specialized training in operating rooms, intensive care, and patient care, helping to enhance long-term medical service delivery in the country.
This mission marks another chapter in KSrelief’s ongoing efforts to provide medical assistance in underserved regions, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to humanitarian outreach across borders.
