ISLAMABAD: In a major step towards addressing property disputes faced by overseas Pakistanis, special courts will be established in Islamabad under the Overseas Property Act 2024.
To ensure swift resolution of such cases, the Acting Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the appointment of special courts dedicated to handling property-related disputes of overseas Pakistanis.
As part of this initiative, the acting chief justice has delegated the authority to nominate judges for these courts to the session judges.
The Registrar of the Islamabad High Court has formally communicated this decision to the Secretary of Law and Justice through an official letter. The letter states that session judges of East and West Islamabad will designate judges for these special courts, considering the pending caseload and judicial expertise.
Additionally, the Ministry of Law has been requested to issue notifications for the appointment of session judges in both divisions under the Overseas Property Act 2024.
In another significant move, a special bench has also been constituted at the Islamabad High Court to oversee appeals and cases related to property disputes of overseas Pakistanis.
Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro has been appointed to hear such cases and appeals. The Deputy Registrar of the IHC has issued a formal notification regarding this development with the approval of the Acting Chief Justice.
The establishment of these dedicated courts and judicial benches marks a major reform aimed at ensuring timely and transparent resolution of property disputes for overseas Pakistanis, a long-standing concern for expatriates.
