Pakistan’s equity market came under severe selling pressure after heightened US-Iran hostilities unsettled global investors, dragging the benchmark KSE-100 Index down by more than 6,500 points while oil prices continued their sharp upward march.

The Pakistan Stock Exchange opened in negative territory for the second straight trading session as investors rushed to offload shares amid uncertainty stemming from escalating tensions in the Middle East.

During intraday trading, the KSE-100 Index fell by as much as 6,535 points to 173,391, representing a decline of 3.6%.

Market participants linked the sell-off to fears that a prolonged regional conflict could disrupt global energy supplies, fuel inflation and weaken investor sentiment.

In the international market, Brent crude oil surged to $86.90 per barrel as traders priced in heightened geopolitical risks.
