The World Fire and Rescue Sport Championship 2025 officially kicked off in Riyadh on Sunday, bringing together elite firefighters and rescuers from 21 countries to compete in one of the world’s most demanding and prestigious civil defense events.
Organized by the Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Directorate of Civil Defense, in partnership with the International Sport Federation of Firefighters and Rescuers (ISFFR), the weeklong championship runs from October 26 to November 1.
The opening ceremony, held in the Saudi capital, featured the parade of participating teams and the raising of national flags, symbolizing international unity, courage, and dedication to saving lives.
The competition includes four major disciplines — the hook ladder climb, 100-meter obstacle course, 4×100-meter relay, and firefighting contest — designed to test physical strength, technical precision, and teamwork under simulated emergency conditions.
Officials said the event highlights Saudi Arabia’s commitment to advancing the standards of civil defense, public safety, and emergency preparedness worldwide. It also reinforces the Kingdom’s growing reputation for hosting major international sporting events in line with the goals of Vision 2030, which promotes health, fitness, and global collaboration.
With teams from Asia, Europe, and Africa taking part, the championship reflects broad international confidence in the Kingdom’s organizational excellence and its dedication to promoting humanitarian values through sport.
